Importing a Personal Encryption Certificate

Importing a Personal Encryption Certificate
You will need to import your personal certificate—one that you exported to disk using the procedure in the preceding section—in either of the following situations:

You want to use your encrypted files on a different computer.
Your original personal certificate is accidentally lost or becomes corrupt.
To import a personal encryption certificate, follow these steps:

In Internet Explorer, choose Tools, Internet Options. On the Content tab of the Internet Options dialog box, click Certificates to open the Certificates dialog box.
Click Import to launch the Certificate Import Wizard, and then click Next.
Enter the path and file name of the encryption certificate (a .pfx file) you exported, and then click Next. If you click Browse, you need to select Personal Information Exchange in the Files Of Type box to see .pfx files.
Enter the password, select other options if you want, and then click Next.

Select Place All Certificates In The Following Store, click Browse, and then select Personal. Click OK, Next, and then Finish.
TIP

As a quick alternative to the first three steps of the preceding procedure, you can simply double-click the encryption certificate file in Windows Explorer. Doing so launches the Certificate Import Wizard.
